Fresh plans to expand a campsite at a mid Suffolk have been submitted after the previous two proposals were turned down.

Stonham Barns, near Stowmarket, has applied for a change of use for land at its site to be used as a caravan and camping site.

The plans would see space provided for the storage of caravans, as well as four toilet and shower blocks.

In addition to the change of use, the application also includes a retention of leisure lake and glamping huts, the siting of a caravan for occupation by a security guard and use of land for the stationing of 18 holiday lodges.

A planning statement said: "The proposed development will enable the facility to improve the tourism and leisure offer at the site which in term will provide significant economic, social and environmental benefits for the district in accordance with the objectives of sustainable development."

It adds that if given the go-ahead, the development will allow for the creation of new job opportunities and improve the range of facilities which are accessible at the site, off the A1120 in Stonham Aspal.

The application, submitted to Mid Suffolk District Council and validated on Thursday, October 3, is the latest to be put forward for the site.

Plans were refused in October 2023 after it was deemed they failed to demonstrate an overriding business need to go ahead with the development. They also failed to provide sufficient information on parking provision and a flood risk assessment.

A flood risk assessment has been included in the latest proposals.

Planners also said the proposals for the leisure lake were found to cause visual harm to the existing landscape, while a lack of need for the development was also identified.

According to Mid Suffolk District Council, the plans will be determined by the start of January 2025.
