Kersey Church of England Primary School has been awarded a £5,000 donation by a Tesco customer.

The school was chosen as the recipient of the donation by an Ipswich Extra Tesco shopper in a lucky dip event on September 21.

The donation is part of Tesco's Stronger Starts scheme, which saw customers given the chance to find a specially created gold version of Tesco's famous blue voting token.

Rosey Kennedy, office manager at Kersey C of E Primary School, said: “On behalf of Kersey CE Primary school I am delighted we were picked to receive The Tesco Golden Grant, as for such a small rural school this sum of money will make a huge difference to each and every pupil."

She added: "Thank you Tesco Golden Grants."

The Stronger Starts scheme is part of Tesco's £8 million grant programme, in partnership with Groundwork UK.

It helps schools and children's groups provide food and healthy activities.

Claire De Silva, Tesco head of communities, said: "We know that £5,000 can make a huge difference to a school or community project."
