Operations at a hospital have been postponed after a leak in the theatre.

West Suffolk Hospital in Bury St Edmunds had to close the theatre on Monday after rain water started to leak into the room.

A total of seven procedures have been postponed and are being rescheduled for later this month, a spokesperson for the trust which runs the hospital confirmed.

The rain water entered the space due to a fault with a metal shroud, which was due to be repaired on Thursday.

It is expected that the theatre will reopen its doors on Friday.

A spokesperson for West Suffolk NHS Foundation Trust said the fault with the metal shroud is not related to RAAC.

It comes after a number of operations at the hospital, in Hardwick Lane in Bury, were cancelled in June after pigeon faeces fell into the sterile storage room.

Staff closed the room after they noticed birds in the ceiling and that faeces had fallen through the ceiling tiles.

Equipment had to be re-sterilised before operations could resume.
