Two spas in Suffolk have been named as some of the country's best places to relax.

The Times shared its list of the top 50 spas across the UK with Marquis Suffolk in Layham, near Hadleigh, and Bedford Lodge Hotel & Spa in Newmarket named.

Originally used as a hunting lodge in the 18th century, Bedford Lodge Hotel & Spa has been a place to stay since the 1940s and is home to a 5-bubble-rated spa.

The Times reviewer noted it for being luxurious and said: "As you drift, prosecco in hand, from the ache-banishing hydrotherapy pool to the rooftop hot tub to a treatment room wafting woody aromas and playing twinkly piano music, you cannot help but feel even the horse hater would love it."

It was also recommended visitors opt for personalised facials and massages for an hour of "pure relaxation" with prices starting from £95.

Marquis Suffolk is located just north of the Dedham Vale Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.

The spa is a recent addition to the hotel following major renovation work which also added wedding and events spaces.

The Times reviewer said: "An Italian-inspired subterranean vaulted spa with an indoor and outdoor pool comes at an extra charge for guests but the serene surroundings and bliss-inducing treatments from high end-brands such as Natura Bisse and Oskia are worth forking out for."

Individual treatments start from £75 or the spa offers half or full day experiences with prices starting from £210.

Bedford Lodge Hotel & Spa and Marquis Suffolk just missed out on being named as the best spa in the East of England which was received by The Norfolk Mead Hotel in Coltishall, Norfolk.
