A historic family run store that has been part of the Suffolk landscape for 150 years has closed.
Sneezums, on the Cornhill in Bury St Edmunds, has been trading across the region since 1874 and bid farewell to customers on Saturday.
It was announced in June that it would shut, as fourth generation owners Elizabeth Sneezum and Yvonne Scotford-Sneezum prepare to retire.
“It’s extremely sad to close our doors after so many wonderful years,” said the pair.
“We are very proud of our ancestors for giving us the opportunity to take on such a business and are proud of ourselves for thriving through some very difficult times for the retail industry.
"We have been incredibly fortunate to serve this community, and we are immensely grateful to everyone who has supported us through the years."
Founded by Henry Sneezum, it first launched in Fore Street, Ipswich, as jeweller, pawnbroker and clothier.
The business expand to a total of 10 shops across East Anglia.
Elizebeth and Yvonne marked the closure alongside their extended family and staff, one of whom has worked at the store for 48 years.
The online shop will continue to operate for a few more months.
“We want to express our deepest thanks to our loyal customers," the pair added.
"We have cherished every moment of serving you, and we are humbled by the trust and friendship you’ve shown us.
"Our employees, past and present, have been the heart and soul of our business, and we couldn’t have done it without their hard work and dedication.
“We've been overwhelmed by the immense support we've had from our staff, family, customers, suppliers and the local community and would like to thank everyone once again from the bottom of our hearts who has played a part in making our Sneezums family business such a success for 150 years.
"It is the end of an era.”
