A Felixstowe cyclist’s inquest is expected to take place in January, more than two years after he died following a crash with a heavy goods vehicle.

Allan Stevenson, 73, died after being involved in a collision with a lorry on October 24, 2022 at the junction of Hawkes Lane with Walton High Street.

Mr Stevenson, who was originally from Newcastle upon Tyne, was found to have suffered unsurvivable injuries, and died at the scene just after 2.30pm.

High Street through Walton was closed for several hours and diversions were put in place.

Speaking at the time, county councillor Stuart Bird, who represents Felixstowe North and Trimley, offered his own condolences to Mr Stevenson’s family.

"I can't think of any accidents that have happened in that road before. It used to be the main road connecting Felixstowe with Trimley St Mary before the bypass was built and it can get very busy,” said Mr Bird.

"I did not know much about it at the time, but it is very sad to hear that there has been a fatality.

"My heart goes out to the family. Whenever someone loses their life it is a tragedy. This is very sad news."

On Friday, an update into Mr Stevenson’s inquest was read out at Suffolk Coroners’ Court.

It was heard that a full inquest into Mr Stevenson’s death is expected to take place on January 14 next year.

The court heard that the reason for the delay is that a health and safety investigation is still ongoing.
