New publicans will be taking over the running of a Suffolk pub once threatened with closure from Saturday.

A new team, including Cait Handy, will be in charge of the White Horse, in Church Road, Felixstowe from noon after the previous landlady - named Carol - left.

On social media site Facebook, Ms Handy said: "We are pleased to announce that the White Horse will be open - under new management - from noon on Saturday, September 28.  We will have beer.

"Please come in and meet us - we will be offering complimentary nibbles at various times to entice you all back through the doors.  We’re looking forward to seeing you."

The pub had been the subject of a campaign by the Save the White Horse action group to stop it being turned into homes.

In 2021, Punch Pubs, which owns the White Horse, submitted plans to tear down the building and replace it with a convenience store with four flats above and two three-bed bungalows in the pub's car park.

However, these plans were rejected by East Suffolk Council planners in June 2022 after a report they received said the proposal would result in the loss of a "valued community facility".

A Punch Pubs spokesperson said: “We are pleased that The White Horse pub will reopen this Saturday, September 28.

"Our publican Daniel and the team are looking forward to welcoming back the community of Felixstowe and beyond and are hoping that this fantastic pub will continue to thrive for many years to come."
