The closing down date of a town's only remaining bank has been delayed for a second time.

Lloyds in Haverhill was expected to close down its branch in the town centre on June 25.

However, earlier this year the banking giant said that they would keep their branch in Haverhill open until September 24.

Now their website states the bank will stay open until December 2.

When Lloyds announced the initial closure bosses said a banking hub was recommended for Haverhill by LINK.

Lloyds has said if the banking hub is not up and running by the listed closure date the branch could be kept open for up to 12 months.

According to Lloyds, 81% of the branch's customers use other ways of banking, such as mobile, internet, or phone banking as well as other branches.

Community leaders described the closure as a "blow" for Haverhill.

Aaron Luccarini, who represents Haverhill Central on West Suffolk Council, said the closure announcement marked a "sad and disappointing day for Haverhill residents and our High Street."

A Lloyds Bank spokesman said:  “As many customers now choose to bank online or through their mobile app, visits to our Haverhill branch have fallen over recent years.

"Customers can use the local post office for everyday banking which is a short walk away, access cash at the nearby free-to-use ATMs, alongside other ways to bank such as over the phone and online, or the new Banking Hub once it is up and running.“
