A pregnant woman who is due to give birth later this week has been given a suspended prison sentence after admitting being involved in the supply of cocaine and cannabis.

Charlie Stephen was present during a search of a flat in Dunnell Way in Bury St Edmunds in January when cocaine valued between £1,735 and £5,480 and cannabis worth between £1,145 and £6,000 was found, Ipswich Crown Court heard.

Stephen, 29, of Dunnell Way, Bury St Edmunds, admitted being concerned in the supply of cocaine and cannabis between December 2023 and January this year.

She was given a 16-month prison sentence suspended for 12 months after Judge David Wilson said: “A prison environment isn’t one to be bringing up a child in and an immediate prison sentence isn’t called for in this case.”

He said Stephen had admitted being involved in dealing cocaine and cannabis on a very limited basis and had made up a wrap of cocaine at the request of someone else.

Joanne Eley, prosecuting, said Stephen accepted knowing there were drugs in her boyfriend’s house and allowing him to use her phone when his was out of battery.

She also accepted making up a wrap of cocaine on one occasion at his request.

Steven Dyble, for Stephen, said his client was due to be induced on Saturday.
