A Suffolk hotel has been added to one of the nation's most prestigious and trusted guides.

Hotels that receive AA Red Stars are among the very best that the UK offers, with the accolade only awarded to establishments with "excellent levels of quality and outstanding service throughout".

The hotels that hold the prestigious award are decided by a dedicated team of inspectors.

The AA Guide said: "The Angel Hotel is an impressive building situated just a short walk from the town centre.

"One of the hotel's more notable guests over the last 400 years was Charles Dickens, who is reputed to have written part of The Pickwick Papers while in residence.

"The hotel offers a range of individually designed bedrooms that include a selection of four-poster rooms and a suite."

The hotel, which is arguably one of Suffolk's most-loved, was last year named as one of the best in the UK for a winter getaway

With its ivy-covered façade, the hotel has views out over St Edmundsbury Abbey.
