Ipswich stab victim still in hospital after attack

Police were called to St Stephen's Lane shortly just before midnight on Saturday evening following reports a teenager had suffered two puncture wounds to his leg.

Officers believe the victim had been involved in an altercation with a group of men, one of who had been carrying a knife.

On Monday, a spokesman for Suffolk police confirmed that the victim remains in hospital but his injuries are not believed to be life-threatening or life-changing.

The investigation into the assault is ongoing and the spokesman said a number of lines of enquiry are taking place but no arrests have been made. 

The spokesman added: "Police patrols have and continue to take place in the area and members of the public are welcome to approach uniform officers to discuss any queries, concerns or information they may have.  

"The assault is believed to be a targeted incident with no wider threat to the public."

Councillor John Cook, who represents Alexandra Ward on Ipswich Borough Council, said we will continue to see incidents like this while people carry knives around with them. 

Speaking previously, he said: "Ipswich Borough Council is fully engaged in working with partners including Suffolk police, the County Council, Probation, Youth Justice Team and district councils across Suffolk through the Suffolk Serious Violence Response Strategy to reduce knife crime.

"I'd urge anyone with information about the attack in St Stephen's Lane last night to get in touch with the police."
