A Suffolk village is set to get a new community shop after plans before a council were given the seal of approval.

Babergh District Council received proposals to convert a storeroom at Elmsett Village Hall into a shop back in July

The plans included a change of use, the addition of three rooflights and some modifications including a new door, walkway and ramp and the extension of safety railings.

The shop will be run by Elmsett and Aldham Community Shop Limited, a community benefit society, and food and household items.

A planning statement before the council said an application for a community benefit society has been lodged with the financial conduct authority.

It read: "The village needs to have a shop back up and running quickly to support those struggling to get out of the village to do their shopping, especially given local road closures and the lack of public transport serving our communities."

The plans were granted approval by Babergh District Council on September 20.
