Police have confirmed a body has been found amid the search for a missing 54-year-old man.

The discovery was made at 9.10am on Friday in a field near Westley Lane in Bury St Edmunds.

Although formal identification procedures have not yet taken place, the deceased is believed to Darren Bird - who was reported missing after last being seen on the morning of September 14.

Officers from different teams searched throughout the week for Mr Bird, including support from Suffolk Lowland Search and Rescue.

The death is not being treated as suspicious and a file will be prepared for the coroner in due course.
