A 22-year-old who punched and kicked a man outside a west Suffolk convenience store, causing fractures to both sides of his jaw, has been jailed for 42 months.
Morgan Burns asked the victim for money as he went into the Tesco Express store in Bury St Edmunds and then confronted him when he came out and punched him in the head and kicked him while he was on the ground, Ipswich Crown Court was told.
The victim suffered bilateral fractures to his jaw which resulted in him having screws inserted in his jaw and his jaw being wired shut.
In his basis of plea, Burns said he had punched the victim because he thought he was going to hit him but accepted he had gone too far.
He claimed the victim had called him a "dirty tramp" and had told him he was "going to get it".
Burns, who is of no fixed address, admitted wounding with intent cause grievous bodily harm in January this year and was jailed for 38 months.
He also admitted sexually assaulting a 14-year-old boy in Bury St Edmunds and was jailed for four months, to be served consecutively.
Simon Gladwell, prosecuting, said the sexual assault took place outside a funeral directors' in Bury St Edmunds when Burns had grabbed hold of a 14-year-old boy and told him he could “put his hand where he wanted”.
Burns had thrust his crotch against the boy and told him not to be shy.
Azza Brown, for Burns, said her client had drug, alcohol and mental health problems.
She said he had been drinking when he sexually assaulted the boy and was ashamed of what he had done.
