A warning has been issued about scam social media accounts selling fake tickets to upcoming Ipswich Town football matches.

Tickets for the Blues' Premier League matches at Portman Road are in high demand, with fraudsters aware they can charge more for fans willing to pay a high price.

Suffolk Trading Standards said scammers are creating fake posts on social media or online marketplaces to advertise tickets that do not exist.

The posts often include pictures of real tickets to convince buyers they are genuine.

Victims are tricked into making a payment by bank transfer and the scammers will either send fake tickets or disappear once the money has been transferred.

A spokesman for Suffolk Trading Standards said: "The only way of guaranteeing the ticket is genuine is to buy from Ipswich Town Football Club, who have strict rules on reselling."

Anyone who has lost money to a scam should contact their bank immediately and report it to Action Fraud.

Ipswich Town has been contacted for a further statement.
