A pizza takeaway franchise has closed just two years after opening in a Suffolk seaside town.

Papa Johns got planning permission to convert the former Ponden Home Interiors shop in Felixstowe into a pizza takeaway two years ago.

The store opened at Hamilton Road in late 2022 but Papa Johns has confirmed the store had closed permanently.

A workforce of 20 people was employed at the outlet.

At the time of its approval, council planners at East Suffolk Council said: "While an over-saturation of hot food takeaways could present the potential for harm to the overall function of a primary shopping area, the case officer considers it unlikely that the presence of the Papa John's pizza chain within the proposed location would result in any detriment to the town centre's long-term vitality."

The scheme would result in the removal of a "dead frontage" while presenting the potential to encourage social interaction.

Earlier this year, the pizza company announced it was shutting several stores across the UK that were performing poorly.

However, no Suffolk outlet was named in the 100 that were close.
