Top travel writers have picked out two Suffolk villages as their among their favourites in the UK. 

Kara Godfrey, deputy travel editor at The Sun and Ryan Gray, travel reporter, have selected Lavenham and Orford as their top locations. 

Mr Gray said Orford is an "adorable village" with toy-town cottages and pubs "cute enough to adorn the front of any postcard". 

He added: "None, however, are more twee than the pastel-pink Pump Street bakery, whose chocolates and Eccles cakes are worth a visit to the village on their own.

"The bakery's goods are served in the award-winning The Luxury Crown and Castle hotel, which picked up the East of England Small Hotel of the Year Gold Tourism Award for 2022-23."

The village is no stranger to national recognition as it was most recently named among the best villages in the country. 

Ms Godfrey said Lavenham is one of her "favourite villages" she has ever visited in England.

She said the village is even more beautiful in the autumn. 

The village has a number of great places to go out for food and drink and was recently named as one of the best places for foodies in the country.

Lavenham, which is arguably one of the best-preserved villages in the country, has a variety of colourful timber-framed buildings and a beautiful church.

The National Trust museum - the Lavenham Guildhall - and the Crooked House are well worth a visit along with its independent shops, nice tearooms and pubs.
