It is no surprise that Suffolk is home to a number of lovely unspoilt villages that are among the best in the UK.
From being close to the coast to historic villages with medieval buildings, there are plenty of places to visit in the county.
Here are five of the best villages you should visit.
Long Melford
Located in south Suffolk, Long Melford is quickly becoming one of the foodie capitals of the county.
With a number of great pubs, cafes and independent shops the village is well worth a visit.
Long Melford, near Sudbury, is also home to the a large food festival which sees hundreds of people attend the village every year.
Kersey
This village is perhaps best known for the 'Kersey Splash', a stream that runs through the main road.
Although many of the homes have traditional tiled roofs you may be able to find one or two thatched cottages nestled in the village.
Kersey also featured in the 2022 hit series Magpie Murders with filming taking place in the village in 2021.
Thorpeness
Not too far from Aldeburgh is where you find the village of Thorpeness.
This coastal village has a skyline dominated by the famous House in the Clouds.
Nearby and overlooked by the House in the Clouds is Thorpeness Meare.
The meare, which was inspired by JM Barrie's novel Peter Pan and the world of Neverland, is a great place to go and explore the small islands - with even a crocodile hiding in the treeline.
Lavenham
Lavenham, also near Sudbury, is one of the most historic villages in the country.
Constantly receiving national recognition the village should be on everyone's list if planning a visit to the county.
The village has been named one the prettiest villages in the UK and it is home to the Harry Potter house.
Dunwich
Dunwich, previously the capital of the Kingdom of the East Angles, is a great place to visit if you are looking for a trip to the coast.
It is also home to one of the best dog walking routes in the country.
The Times has included Dunwich Heath in its list of the best 17 places to walk your four-legged friends in the country.
The Coast Guard Cottage walk in the seaside village is about two and a half miles long.
