An rescue centre that has saved countless of animals during its 30 years has now closed down.
Suffolk and Essex Small Animal Welfare (SESAW) was based in Leavenheath on the Suffolk-Essex border and over the past three decades it has cared for a wide variety of abandoned or injured animals.
Animals including cats, dogs, rabbits, birds were looked after by volunteers until new owners were found.
Last month the trustees announced that the charity would be closing.
There were hopes that the organisation could be saved by the local community - however, the trustees said the charity closed down on Saturday.
In a post on social media, the trustees said: "The decision has not been reversed and the centre is now closed to further admissions.
"Due to the desperate need for animal rescues and the high regard in which SESAW is held generally, this regrettable news caused much distress to all concerned.
"Should a viable plan materialise during the winding down process that might provide a way forward for the charity, it will be considered."
