Knife Angel sculpture arrives in Haverhill in west Suffolk

The Knife Angel sculpture, which aims to raise awareness of the dangers of knife crime and is made up of tens of thousands of blades, will be displayed in Haverhill for the whole of September. 

This follows a lengthy campaign by the family of Harley Barfield, a 16-year-old boy who was stabbed in the town in January last year, passing away at Royal Papworth Hospital two days later.

In December, a then-17-year-old boy was convicted of murder and handed a life sentence with a minimum custodial term of 17 years following a trial lasting over four weeks.

The Knife Angel sculpture arrived in Haverhill at the weekend and it now stands in the market square.

Before its arrival, councillor Joe Mason, who represents Haverhill North on West Suffolk Council, said: "It provides a timely reminder about how all violence is unacceptable and that the costs and consequences are too great, causing grief or pain for years to come, as we have seen locally." 

The Knife Angel will remain in Haverhill for the rest of the month.
