A Suffolk woman is set to host a horse safety campaign ride in an effort to make drivers and other road users "more aware" of the dangers.
Ruth Housden, who owns horses in Cornard Tye and also works as a dog groomer in the area, said she has been inspired to launch her own Pass Wide and Slow campaign event after attending a similar event in Thetford herself.
The Pass Wide and Slow road safety campaign aims to educate other road users about the vulnerability of horse riders, with rides and events arranged to increase awareness.
Ms Housden said some 15 horse riders and some walkers have now signed up for her event, which will take place on September 15 starting from her yard at 10.30am, with attendees arriving from 10am, and looping around Great Cornard.
"It is to try and educate people on how to pass vulnerable people safely," she said.
"We're all allowed to be there on the road, but there's so much more traffic now it is just getting people to be aware of it.
"It is not to pick at people but just to make them aware to take a bit more time, to slow down, to pass with more space and go a bit wider. It could stop there being a serious accident."
The planned route will take riders and walkers from her yard down Canhams Road, Head Lane, Bures Road, Stannard Way, Pot Kiln Road, Raydon Way, Shawlands Avenue and back to the yard.
Ms Housden said there will be hot and cold food and drinks for the riders as well as goody bags and rosettes, particularly for any children.
The event is free and those wishing to attend can email Ruth on ruthhousden1976@gmail.com.
