A mid Suffolk road remains shut six months after badger activity closed the carriageway.

Natural England has granted Suffolk Highways a licence to undertake repairs in Lavenham Road in Thorpe Morieux following damage caused by the animals.

The road has been closed since February following "carriageway deterioration".

A spokeswoman for Suffolk Highways said: "Ecology Teams have been monitoring the area for badger activity as part of the license agreement whilst plans for the construction work are finalised.

"The start date will be communicated as soon as possible."

A Freedom of Information request submitted by this newspaper earlier this year revealed a proposed end date of November 1, almost nine months on from the initial closure.

Badgers are protected by law and their setts can only be moved between the beginning of July and the end of October, and only once Natural England has granted permission.

It is not the only road to have been disrupted by badgers in Suffolk.

Hulver Street near Beccles was closed for 10 months in 2023, while Flowton Road in Elmsett was closed earlier this year.
