The Framlingham 10K, set for this Sunday, September 1, and organised by the Framlingham Flyers Running Club, offers runners of all abilities a chance to experience the charm of one of Suffolk's most historic towns.
Framlingham, famous for its iconic ‘Castle on the Hill,’ provides a scenic backdrop for this friendly race. The route consists of an undulating two-lap course that weaves through the picturesque streets, offering glimpses of the stunning castle, out into the countryside, and back around to the town.
Starting on Market Hill at 11:00 am, the race promises a welcoming atmosphere, perfect for both seasoned runners and those looking to enjoy a more leisurely pace. With easy car parking and convenient facilities, including toilets at the race headquarters at Framlingham Sports Club, the event is well-organised and accessible.
“We are extremely grateful to our generous sponsors, without whom this event wouldn't be possible. All our sponsors have close ties to the town, and their support means the world to us,” says Graham Wigley, Chairman of the Framlingham Flyers Running Club. “Our sponsors are not only helping to make this event a success, but they also get to participate in the race and have their logos proudly displayed on our finishers' t-shirts. It's a true community effort, and we're thrilled to have them on board.”
One of the highlights of the Framlingham 10K is the friendly community support. Spectators line the streets, offering cheers and encouragement. The race encourages all levels of runners. Whether aiming for a personal best or wanting to soak in the atmosphere, the emphasis is on enjoyment and participation.
“Famous? Yes! Challenging? Ummmm... Notorious? Maybe! Fun and friendly? Definitely! Two laps of this beautiful town and its iconic castle. Everyone gets a high-quality running top, specially designed for the event. Trophies for outright and age group winners. Amazing burgers back at the Sports Club, and the bar will be open!” says race director Tim Cherrett.
“So, lace up your running shoes and join in for a wonderful day of fitness, community spirit and a chance to explore the beautiful town of Framlingham in the best possible way – on foot.”
For younger runners, there’s a junior fun run, adding to the family-friendly nature of the event.
The senior race is open to participants aged 15 and above, with an entry fee of £18 for affiliated runners and £20 for unaffiliated runners.
