A 14-year-old boy has been charged in connection with a fire that took hold at a disused factory in Sudbury.
Fire crews and police officers from across the county were called to the blaze at the former Delphi site in Newton Road at about 5.10pm on Tuesday, May 28.
Police have now confirmed a teenager has now been charged with arson with recklessness as to whether life was endangered following the fire.
The boy has been bailed and is set to appear at Ipswich Youth Court on October 3.
Delphi Diesel Systems closed in mid-2020 with hundreds of job losses when the American-owned conglomerate behind the site decided to move the manufacturing operation - which made diesel fuel injectors and filters for commercial vehicles - to Romania in eastern Europe.
The site has been empty since the closure and, following the fire, many community leaders have called for it to be restored to protect it.
Following a recent Sudbury Town Council meeting it was agreed that six members would join a Delphi Working Group where they will meet to discuss the site.
The fire started in the derelict factory, which is approximately 100mx100m, and a spokeswoman for Suffolk Fire and Rescue Service confirmed at the time that about 50% of the building was involved in the blaze.
Thick black smoke could be seen across Sudbury as firefighters worked to get it under control.
A police cordon was put in place while emergency services attended the blaze, but it was lifted a short while later.
