A Great Britain Olympic champion has been confirmed as one of the cyclists who will be competing in the Tour of Britain, which will see a stage run through Suffolk.

Tom Pidcock, who just returned from the Olympic Games with a gold medal in men's cross-country mountain biking, is the second Paris champion to confirm his place in the race.

The 25-year-old joins the likes of Belgian double Olympic champion Remco Evenepoel and former race winner Julian Alaphilippe on the provisional start list for the 20th edition of the Tour of Britain.

Stage six of the race runs from Lowestoft to Felixstowe and will visit several other towns in east Suffolk.

Pidcock sensationally won a gold for Team GB in the recent Olympics as he overcame a puncture midway through the cross-country mountain biking race.

The Leeds-born star overtook French rival Victor Koretzky right at the end to secure his second consecutive gold medal in the event, having also won in Tokyo.

Pidcock said: “The Tour of Britain is a really special race for me. Returning to the UK after a such busy year of racing and to pin on numbers in front of the passionate home fans, always provides great motivation.

“I can’t wait to get out there with my INEOS Grenadier teammates in our home race and we look forward to seeing you all out along the road.”
