A councillor has resigned from his role on Mid Suffolk District Council as he is relocating.

Austin Davies, who was representing Thurston on Mid Suffolk District Council, has stepped down from his role.

A Mid Suffolk District Council spokesperson confirmed this is due to him moving away from the area.

Mr Davies was first elected in Thurston on February 2022.

He stood as a Green Party representative and secured 845 votes.

In May 2023, he was re-elected after winning 1224 votes.

At the time he said: "I am humbled and delighted that the constituents of the Thurston ward have put their trust in me to be their district councillor."

In his time on the council he has been a member of the planning committee, a company director of Mid Suffolk's property investment company CIFCO and Mid Suffolk Holdings, and sat on the council's Audit and Standards committee until recently.

Mr Davies resignation has taken immediate effect.

This triggers a process which is expected to result in a by-election in Thurston on Tuesday, September 24.

Nominations will close at 4pm on Wednesday, August 28.
