Ipswich Town may not have secured a dream Premier League return with a win in their opening game - but the performance will leave fans confident for the rest of the season.

The Blues' first top-flight game in 22 years ended with a 2-0 defeat to Liverpool, who boast world-class stars like Mo Salah, Virgil van Dijk and Trent Alexander-Arnold.

Although things don't get immediately easier for Town in their next game - they are away to champions Manchester City - fans have been looking at the positives from Saturday's match.

BBC Radio Suffolk legend Mark Murphy MBE was at the game at Portman Road.

He said: "What a great day out it was. It was so lovely to see fans of all ages having a fantastic time.

"The Ipswich players gave their all and certainly edged the first half, but Liverpool have some of the best players in the world, so it was no great surprise to see them win. I think we can learn a lot from the match.

"It's going to be tough again next week away to Manchester City but it's a long season and there will be plenty of winnable games.

"Let's just enjoy the ride and see where it goes."

Keelan Waldock said: "Considering eight out of that team played in League One, I felt like we did ourselves proud against a Champions League side with some of the best players in the world.

"It’s an exciting time to be an Ipswich Town fan and I already cannot wait for next week's challenge away at Man City."

And season ticket holder Olly Sullivan added: "It was a momentous day in the history of our club and was certainly one to remember.

"The boys did us all proud in how they went toe-to-toe with some of the best footballers in the world, particularly in a very impressive first half.

"It might feel a bit strange experiencing defeat after a series of endless highs but there is zero shame in that result. If we can continue to play like that every week then I'm confident for a good season.

"Uppa Towen!"
