A 25-year-old Ipswich man has been named as part of an ongoing murder investigation in Felixstowe.

Police were called by ambulance services to an incident at the seafront promenade by Undercliff Road West in Felixstowe at about 9.20pm on Saturday to a report of an assault.

Officers were then called again at 10.30am on Sunday to a property in Carr Road where a man in his 20s, who had been injured in the assault, was found dead.

Subject to confirmation at formal inquest proceedings, police have now identified Charlie Greaves, 25, from Ipswich as the man who died.

A Home Office post-mortem on Tuesday morning revealed the cause of death as being a traumatic head injury.

A 28-year-old man from Felixstowe was arrested on Monday evening on suspicion of murder and was taken to Martlesham police headquarters for questioning.

Detective Inspector Mark Hughes issued a plea for more information.

He said: “Investigations into the man’s death continue. Detectives are making enquiries, looking into the circumstances of the altercation and identifying those in the area at the time that may be able to assist with the investigation.

“We would like to hear from anyone that might have witnessed an assault on the seafront or who might have any information that could help us in our enquiries.

“It is important to note that we believe this to be an isolated incident with no wider threat to members of the public.”

Officers are appealing for anyone with CCTV or a video doorbell between Ranelagh Road and Undercliff Road West on Saturday evening, or that may have been driving in the area between 8.30pm and 9.20pm that may have a dash camera, to get in touch to assist with the investigation.

Police are asking anyone with further information on this case to contact them, quoting crime reference number 37/45286/24.
