A Mildenhall community leader has said residents have been 'neglected' and 'deserve better', as a road has been resurfaced following numerous calls.

Trinity Avenue in Mildenhall, which was branded 'Pothole Avenue' and the 'worst road in west Suffolk' due to its uneven surface, was the subject of multiple calls for resurfacing by residents and councillors over the last year.

It has now been fixed by Suffolk Highways, but Andy Neal, who represents Mildenhall Queensway on West Suffolk council, says other areas of the town are still in "dire need" of work.

"Trinity Avenue at last has been resurfaced after so many false promises," he said.

"Would it have been done without the exposure from TV, social media and the press - probably not.

"Mildenhall’s residents deserve better support from the county council than it currently receives and within the town there are roads also in dire need of resurfacing, drainage problems and general maintenance.

"Mildenhall is neglected to the point of almost being forgotten where Suffolk County Council is concerned," he added.

A Suffolk Highways spokesperson said: "We are pleased that Trinity Avenue has now been resurfaced and we're sure this is welcomed by the residents.

"Suffolk County Council is investing more funding into the highway network, including road resurfacing, drainage, and footway maintenance.

"As with all local authorities, the council undertakes an annual road condition survey which is then shared with Central Government. Suffolk Highways will also use this information along with customer reports and reactive maintenance activities to identify sites to be prioritised.

"Residents are encourage to report any issues to Suffolk Highways, via the Online Reporting Tool, so they can be inspected and added to the future work programmes if required," they added.
