People are still being warned to avoid a village playing field despite a large group of travellers leaving the site.

Haughley Parish Council has said it became aware of a "large number of caravans" arriving at the playing fields last week.

People were being asked to avoid the area while authorities worked to move the travellers on

However the council has since confirmed that the site is now clear but is still asking people to stay away while decontamination  work is carried out.

A spokesman for the parish council said: "We thank the community for their patience whilst we undertook the necessary legal steps with the help of Mid Suffolk District Council, Norfolk, Suffolk, Gypsy, Romany and Traveller Liaison, our district and county councillors and the police.

"The general public are still asked to avoid the playing field and playground sites at present whilst they are being assessed for specialist decontamination work.

"Short term and immediate actions have been the locking of the gates to the site - followed later by blocking the gates until a longer-term solution is put in place."
