30 years ago, Suffolk was a very different place, different shops, different clubs, different technology. Here are some memories of the 1990s in Suffolk from EADT readers.
1. Clubbing
Hollywood's
Readers reminisce on "partying like it was 1999" in some of Ipswich's lost nightclubs.
Hollywood's opened in 1988, in the old Maltings building near the train station in Ipswich.
The club was known for its Monday indie nights and people queuing over the bridge on Princes Street to get in.
Chicago's
Also among the favourites was Chicago's, an American themed club on Northgate Street.
Chicago's played music from the 1950s up to the 1980s, drawing in punters throughout the 1990s and 2000s.
Since Chicago's closed, the venue hosted clubs like Shout, Quilt and Mojo and Groove.
The building is now an EasyHotel.
2. Shopping
Ipswich has seen many business over the years that have since closed, leaving readers nostalgic over their trips into the former town centre.
One reader remembers, "Getting the minibus into town for about 80p (maybe less), go straight to Woolies for a cassette or CD for 99p then get a bag of chips before getting the minibus home again."
Going to Woolworths
Woolworths in Ipswich settled on Carr Street in 1923, serving the town right up until its closure in 2008.
The Carr Street shop was one of the country's biggest Woolworths in 1968.
Shopping at Debenhams
Ipswich Debenhams sat on the corner of Lloyds Avenue and Westgate street from 1842.
The department store served Ipswich until 2021, when it closed after Bill Gredley, founder of Unex, completed a £3million deal to buy the building in May 2021.
3. Activities
Broomhill Lido
Broomhill pool was a popular summer spot for families in Ipswich.
The lido closed in 2002 and still hasn't reopened despite its popularity back in the day.
Watching Ipswich vs Norwich football
After Ipswich made it to the Premier League last season, some readers have been reminding themselves of previous games.
One reader said, "Watching both Ipswich and Norwich in the premier league!" was a memory from the 1990s that they don't think they can see again.
