Film lovers in Sudbury will be able to enjoy more movies after funding was agreed to bring a pop-up cinema forback to the town.

On Tuesday, Sudbury Town Council's leisure and environment committee discussed plans to use £2,200 of their budget to bring back the Moving Cinema.

The parish is planning to bring the cinema to the Kingfisher Leisure Centre and have time allotted for shows in October and during the February mid-term break.

The town played host to the cinema last year during Halloween and showed a selection of new releases like Barbie and A Haunting in Venice, as well as offering Ghostbusters and Haunted Mansion as Halloween specials.

It was extremely successful with the 100-seater portable theatre, run by Abbeygate Cinema, almost always being sold out to audiences.

Cllr Jan Osborne said: "I am going to propose this because I think it is absolutely brilliant it is so successful and I think it brought £6,000 into the economy."

The Abbeygate Cinema experience is in an HGV truck that is one of only three purpose-built in the UK and can grow or shrink to change between the 100-seater auditorium and a vehicle to travel.

The Incredible Moving Cinema is fully heated, ventilated, air-conditioned and weather-proof.

Although the lineup for the films has not been announced, tickets would cost £5 per adult, £2.50 per child and £4 for concessions and students.

Cllr Osborne had previously said: “Accessibility has been at the forefront of the project and keeping the ticket prices as low as possible has been key”.

The funds for the cinema would be drawn out of the parish council's budget, with Cllr Tim Regester suggesting it would be a good replacement for the now cancelled party in the park.

The plans to bring Abbeygate Cinema to town were unanimously agreed.
