Highways teams are set to inspect pavements in a village near Ipswich that parish councillors have branded "unsafe" due to overgrown bushes.

Vice-chair of Bramford Parish Council, Claire Reeve, has raised a complaint that Suffolk County Council's highways committee are not doing enough to remove the bushes from the village's pavements.

Suffolk Highways has now said that it will do a detailed inspection of the area once again on Thursday and make a decision following the inspection.

Speaking to this newspaper, Ms Reeve said: "Pavements in the village are frequently used by children to walk to and from school.

"The children are encouraged to walk but when the pavements are unsafe, it is not viable.

"Residents also use the pavements to get around the village."

She said that most of her concern is regarding pavements at Paper Mill Lane between Hillcrest Approach and Stockley Barn, as well as Ship Lane, where overgrown bushes are blocking pedestrians' paths and pushing them on the street.

She noted that one resident she spoke to, Judith, had to walk past two pavements to get to the shops, and in both cases was pushed onto the road due to overgrowth.

The councillor has been calling on Suffolk Highways to take action, however, said that even after multiple complaints the committee have deemed the pavements suitable for use.

Ms Reeve added: "When the reports are made, they inspect these areas but still deem them to be suitable. It's a disgrace."

A spokesperson for the county council's highways committee that the team are set to do a detailed inspection of the pavements in the village on Thursday.

The highways team has agreed to do so following multiple complaints from residents and councillors calling for increased pedestrian safety.
