A community leader has described a crash that injured three people when a car hit a kebab shop in Bury St Edmunds "horrific".
Multiple air ambulances, as well as Suffolk Fire and Rescue Service and ambulance crews, were called to Lawson Place in the west Suffolk town just after 5.30pm on Saturday after a car crashed into Moreton Hall Fish & Kebab on the estate.
A police spokesman later confirmed that three pedestrians had sustained "potentially life-changing injuries" following the crash.
Pictures taken on Sunday morning showed Moreton Hall Fish & Kebab was boarded up after the incident.
Bury St Edmunds mayor, Diane Hind, said: "It was a horrific incident and my thoughts are with the injured and their families, and I wish them all a full and speedy recovery.
"Also for those who weren’t injured it will have been very distressing, and I hope they are getting support too.
"I know the staff at the kebab shop are very popular with customers and everyone wishes them well."
Posting on X, formerly known as Twitter, Bury St Edmunds and Stowmarket MP Dr Peter Prinsley said: "Deeply saddened by the incident in Bury St Edmunds, where three pedestrians sustained serious injuries after a car crashed through a shop window.
"Our thoughts are with all those affected."
At the time, witnesses said a large police cordon had been set up near Moreton Hall Community Care Home following the incident.
The road was closed off and police were seen escorting drivers out of the car park at Lawson Place.
People were also asked to avoid the area by the emergency services.
