Crews battled a fire near a Suffolk town when around 2,500 metres of crop stubble caught fire at a farm property. 

Emergency services were called to a farm in Rendlesham, near Woodbridge, at around 2.26pm on Saturday to reports of a large area of crop stubble on fire. 

A spokesman for Woodbridge Fire Station said the first crew that attended the scene saw the large blaze from around five miles away, prompting them to call for back up.

The spokesman also confirmed that approximately 2,500 square metres of the field was on fire.

Fire and Rescue crews from Woodbridge, Orford, Aldeburgh, Leiston and Saxmundham attended the scene.

They battled the fire with hose reel jets and beaters until they were able to extinguish the fire at around 3.30pm.

The area was made safe by firefighters and the crews left the scene shortly after.
