Daniel Coulson
Daniel Coulson, who has 62 previous convictions, was jailed at Ipswich Crown Court this week after causing nine hours of disruption in the Buttermarket and Tavern Street area.
Police set up a cordon on Buttermarket and Tavern Street on May 16 after the 49-year-old climbed onto the roof of a building following a botched robbery from a jewellers.
Coulson, of Woodbridge Road, later admitted to the burglary offences, as well as the offence of causing a public nuisance by climbing on to the roof.
He was jailed for two years and six months at Ipswich Crown Court.
Ryan Thirlwell
Ryan Thirlwell was jailed at Ipswich Crown Court after the jury heard he put a woman in a headlock and punched her until she collapsed unconscious in Sudbury.
The court heard that Thirlwell, 35, had been taking prescription drugs and spirits with the victim when an argument broke he put her in a headlock and punched her in the face repeatedly.
The court heard she had a wound to the forehead, a fractured eye socket, bleeding from the right nostril and bruising to the upper left chest.
The victim died later that month aged 35, but the court heard it was from medical complications unrelated to the attack.
Thirlwell, who is from Magnolia Drive in Colchester, was jailed for 27 months.
Mark Ely
Mark Ely, who threatened to stab a shop assistant who tried to stop him leaving a store with a basket of unpaid-for shopping, was jailed at Ipswich Crown Court.
The court heard that a member of staff at the Dunelm store in Bury Road in Ipswich tried to stop Ely, of Milton Street, Ipswich, before he told her: “Get off me or I’ll f****** stab you”.
This follows pattern of behaviour such as when he threatened threatened a member of staff at a Premier store in Reynolds Road, in December, with the blade of a multi-tool.
Ely admitted charges of robbery at Dunelm on November 19 last year, attempted theft from the Premier Store on December 21 and threatening a member of staff with a knife blade and was sentenced to 45 months.
Laurence Margerum
Laurence Margerum was sentenced at Ipswich Crown Court after police found £15,000 worth of cocaine and £11,000 in cash in a bag in his home.
Police initially arrested Margerum, of Woodbridge Road, when they saw him drop a £40 wrap of cocaine from his car in Springland Close last June.
Jailing him, Judge David Wilson said he had become involved in the supply of drugs to supplement his significant drug addiction and to make a significant profit.
The 32-year-old was sentenced to three years and nine months.
John Hutton
John Hutton, who left a woman "dead emotionally and physically" after raping her, was jailed at Ipswich Crown Court.
The 34-year-old, of Old Rectory Close, Barham, denied raping the woman after walking her home from Fox pub in Elmswell, near Bury St Edmunds, in July 2021, but was unanimously convicted by a jury.
The victim, who was unable to move in the attack, said: "The home I had loved became just the house I was raped in."
She added that it was not just her own suffering, but also that of her daughter who witnessed her mother being taken to the bedroom by Hutton, that had affected her.
“I have watched my beautiful confident little girl become hateful, distant and full of fear."
Hutton was sentenced to nine years in jail.
