Police are warning Suffolk drivers to slow down after more than 4,500 speeding offences were detected in the county in June.

Officers say 4,606 speeding offences were registered in Suffolk in June, across 172 different locations in the county.

They also said drivers in Barton Mills, Ipswich, Pettistree and Exning were the worst offenders.

Officers have warned drivers to slow down and recognise the dangers of speeding.

A Suffolk police spokesman said: “Our speed cameras are used to ensure the safety of all road users.

“Speeding has been proven to have devastating consequences. Nearly 10% of all collisions where someone was killed or seriously injured, involved drivers travelling too fast for the conditions of the road."

The spokesman added: "Speed is one of the ‘fatal four’ offences making you more likely to be killed or seriously injured in a collision, along with drink and drug driving, driving without a seatbelt and driving whilst using a mobile phone.”
