An army veteran whose house has flooded five times in six years is seeking answers to resolve the issue.

Trevor Bygate was medically discharged from the army in 2019, having served on tours across the globe.

He moved to Glanville Road in Hadleigh in 2018, where he lives with his family.

During this time, he built a building in his garden in memory of his daughter, Chloe, who died in 2014.

The most recent flooding has left Mr Bygate with no option but to replace the flooring in the outbuilding.

"Obviously there was a bit of clearing up to do. It is the fifth time it has happened now," said Mr Bygate.

"We turned to look at the gate - it was like a tsunami had come from outside.

"It came in and just swamped the garden."

As a result of the latest flooding, the family has been left with no option but to replace the flooring due to the amount of rainfall which seeped in.

He added: "I have got videos of us trying to brush water away from the door.

"It just engulfed us. It was horrendous.

"I just feel no one is taking control. No one has taken some leadership to say 'right, this is the issue.'"

The issues are believed to be caused by drainage problems in the area.

An Anglian Water spokeswoman said: “Our local teams visited Glanville Road in Hadleigh on Tuesday afternoon (9 July) and completed a CCTV investigation of one of our assets in the area.

"Upon inspection, there was a tree root blocking the surface water drain which our teams have cleared.

“We will be continuing our investigation during the next bout of heavy rainfall to see what the cause of this issue might be if clearing the root hasn’t resolved the problem.”
