A driver was caught driving the wrong way around a roundabout by police officers on patrol.

The incident happened in Haverhill on Thursday night with the officer observing a vehicle going the wrong way around a roundabout.

The vehicle then crossed onto the opposite side of the road and driving up it the opposite way in order to turn right.

The driver was stopped and issued a Traffic Offence Report for careless driving.

Section 59 of the Police Reform Act Warning also means the vehicle could be seized if the driver commits an offence in similar circumstances within the next 12 months.

A spokesman for Sudbury and Haverhill police said: "Had someone been turning out of the road from the correct direction this would likely have resulted in a head on collision."
