A much-loved restaurant in Woodbridge has been celebrating its 30th anniversary this week of serving customers across Suffolk.

The Galley in Market Hill, Woodbridge, first opened its doors in Ipswich on July 4, 1994.

Ugur Vata, the owner of the eatery came to the country 40 years ago, and has been working in catering since.

After the success of The Galley in Ipswich, Mr Vata opened a sister restaurant in Woodbridge in 2004.

While the venue in Ipswich has since closed, The Galley remains one of the most popular restaurants in Woodbridge.

Mr Vata said: "I am so grateful for the support I have received.

"All our customers have become friends. Since sharing our 30th anniversary news, I've received enormous numbers of well wishes from people all around the world.

"Thank you for the support over the last 30 years, through the most difficult of times, and of course thanks to my family who have supported me throughout.

"I can't believe how quickly the time has gone. It's an incredible industry to work in.

"Every day is a party, every day you meet new people, every day you want to provide the best service."

Three years ago, The Galley added to its offerings by opening the Creamery next door, making a variety of ice creams combining different flavours.

Mr Vata continued: "I like making people happy.

"I haven't raised my prices in a year and a half because I prefer making people happy.

"Hopefully the hot weather will return and more people will want some ice creams."

The ice creams have been very popular with customers, with even Hollywood star Benedict Cumberbatch popping in to try the "absolutely crazy" flavours and Griff Rhys Jones also trying the ice creams.
