A woman has revealed how she was left covered in glass after an object thrown from a footbridge over the A14 smashed her car windscreen.
The terrifying incident took place in the early hours of Wednesday on the A14 Port of Felixstowe Road, on the outskirts of the coastal town.
Beth Coombe was travelling between the McDonald's junction and the Dock Spur roundabout when she was disrupted by the object hitting her windscreen.
"It was not very nice," she said.
"I had gone underneath the first footbridge and that's where whatever it was got thrown onto my windscreen.
"I got covered in glass. Because I was in the process of overtaking a lorry I had to try and make sure I didn't hit the man who was driving the lorry."
Similar incidents have taken place along the A14 over the past few years.
A father was travelling along the A14, close to the Copdock Interchange, with his six-month-old child and girlfriend in July 2023 when a brick smashed through their windscreen.
Vandals smashed the windscreen with a stone from a bridge in Trimley St Mary in a separate incident.
Ms Coombe said it made her wary of where she is driving.
She said: "I am always out driving. I will still drive, but obviously I am going to be a lot more wary of where I am driving."
Suffolk police is now appealing for information to the "distressing" incident.
A statement said: "Officers are investigating following a report of an object being thrown from the footbridge on the Port Of Felixstowe Road in the early hours of the morning on 26/06/2024.
"Damage was caused to the windscreen of a passing vehicle and thankfully nobody was seriously injured.
"This was a distressing incident for those involved and we continue our investigation to identify the person responsible for this offence."
Anyone with information is asked to contact Suffolk police, quoting crime reference number 37/35656/24
