A former teacher from Bury St Edmunds has been found guilty of sexually abusing children.
Richard Taylor, a former teacher from Bury St Edmunds, has been standing trial at Ipswich Crown Court for the past two weeks.
Taylor, 56 and of Best Road, was accused of abusing two boys, with the abuse starting from 1999. One of the victims was aged 12 to 15, and the other was aged 10 to 11.
Taylor denied all counts levelled against him, which included rape, indecent assault and indecency.
His family have been present throughout the trial, with his brother telling the court that he believed absolutely in his brother’s innocence.
However, on Tuesday afternoon a jury found Taylor unanimously guilty. Taylor was found guilty of one count of rape, six counts of indecent assault of a male, and nine counts of indecency with a child.
During the course of his trial, prosecutor Richard Potts said that the abuse began as touching and masturbation and eventually escalated to anal sex.
It was said in court that the children trusted him and that he would have a bath with them. However, the anal sex stopped once the defendant got a girlfriend, and he reverted to only touching, the court was told.
It was only in Christmas of 2019 the complainants decided to go to the police about the alleged offences.
Taylor is expected to be sentenced for these offences on September 20 at Ipswich Crown Court.
