The A12 was blocked in both directions following a crash at a railway level crossing.
Emergency services were alerted to the two-vehicle collision at the railway level crossing in Darsham, near Yoxford, at about 9.45am on Sunday.
A spokesman for Suffolk police said the road was blocked in both directions.
It has since reopened.
Drivers were advised to find alternative routes.
Rail services were also disrupted due to the crash.
"Train services running through this station may be delayed or revised. Disruption is expected until further notice," said a Greater Anglia spokesman.
Services between Ipswich and Lowestoft were severely disrupted.
The Greater Anglia spokesman added: "We are unable to run a Rail Replacement Bus service as the Buses would require to run over Darsham Level Crossing."
