Overnight road closures are planned for a major route through Suffolk vulnerable to flooding.

The A14, near Newmarket, has experienced issues with flooding since the start of March following significant heavy rainfall. 

In all, 15 million litres of water has been pumped from the road near junction 37 over the last three months.

Engineers from National Highways recently stalled a piezometer, a piece of equipment that acts as a warning system for high groundwater levels. 

Overnight closures are planned to start on Monday, June 10 to safely remove the emergency flood water pumps and reopen lane one.

The A14 eastbound and entry slip to the junction will close from 8pm until 6pm for three nights. 

Drivers are being warned to allow extra time for journeys and follow the diversion route along the A142 Fordham Road into Newmarket then A1304 to junction 38 for the A11.

A14 traffic will use the B1506 to junction 39 for Kentford before rejoining the A14.
