Needham Market Raft Race is returning this weekend for its 21st year, with a new circus theme.
Taking place at Needham Lake on Sunday June 9, this year’s event will be inspired by the circus – think clowns, acrobatics, and maybe some top hats!
Jean Pittaway, chairman of Needham Market Raft Race Committee, said: “From past experience, it’s safe to say that predicting any of the winners is never a forgone conclusion. The conditions and course vary each year and there are some newcomers getting ready to maybe surprise us all.
“At the end of the day the real winners are the community in and around Needham Market, who can enjoy a family-friendly event in a beautiful location while helping local charities, clubs and community groups to raise awareness and funds.”
This year will also feature a new Charity Fundraiser trophy, recognising the work of the raft teams to raise money for their chosen charity.
The trophy winners will have their charity donations boosted by Town and Village Properties.
Competition will be fierce for raft race glory, with team “Under The Thumb” looking to defend their title and Everyone Active Stowmarket making their third appearance.
Fancy dress judging will take place at 1:30pm, with the paddle-off starting at 2pm.
