National fish and chips day 2024: The top places in Suffolk

To celebrate national fish and chips day, here are five award-winning chippy's you should visit to mark the occasion.

1. The Golden Galleon, Aldeburgh 

The Golden Galleon is one of two chip shops run by the same family in Aldeburgh.

With haddock, cod, plaice and scampi all on the menu, the High Street chippy was named one of the best in the UK by the BBC Good Food Guide.

2. Codfellas, Ipswich

Codfellas in Ipswich is one of the best-known takeaway restaurants in Ipswich, winning national recognition multiple times along. 

The Greenfinch Avenue eatery was named in Fry Magazine's top 50 fish and chip shops in the country in 2023, while in 2020 it was awarded a Gold Seal at the Good Food Awards.

3. Nacton Road Fish Bar, Ipswich

Nacton Road Fish Bar is another favourite among Ipswich locals. 

In 2020, the restaurant won a Good Food Award and was praised by judges for its delicious chips. 

It continues to gain good reviews, currently holding a 4.5 star rating on Tripadvisor. 

4. The Codfather, Sudbury

Having been serving the Sudbury community since 2000, The Codfather offers both dine-in and takeaway options.

The King Street restaurant was handed a Quality Award as part of a national scheme highlighting the top fish and chip shops in the UK.

It currently has a 4.5 star rating on Tripadvisor from more than 500 reviews.

5. Hendo's, Bury St Edmunds

Open seven-days-a-week and able to cater for both dine-in and takeaway customers, Hendo's is a favourite among Bury St Edmunds locals.

In 2023, it was named among the finalists of the best newcomer category at the National Fish and Chips Award 2024.
