Drivers will be left facing a 45-mile diversion route while a village road is closed.
The A143 Horringer Road on the just outside Bury St Edmunds will be closed from June 11 to June 14 while Anglian Water carries out urgent work.
The official diversion route according to the Suffolk County Council website will be 45 miles long.
The diversion route includes A roads because some vehicles like HGVs cannot go down smaller roads that others would use as shortcuts.
