The fire service have tackled a large blaze  that broke out in a derelict building in a Suffolk town. 

Crews were called Waterloo Avenue in Leiston at about 9.20pm on Wednesday. 

A spokeswoman for Suffolk Fire and Rescue Service said on arrival crews found a building that was 10 metres x 15 metres well alight. 

The blaze has been put out and the spokeswoman confirmed an investigation into the cause has been launched. 

The fire service returned to the scene at 7am on Thursday to check for any hotspots but the reinspection has now been complete. 

Officers from Suffolk police were also called to assist with a road closure, but that has since been lifted.

Appliances from Leiston, Framlingham, Aldeburgh and Saxmundham were called to tackle the blaze.
