The fire started in the derelict factory, which is approximately 100mx100m, and a spokeswoman for Suffolk Fire and Rescue Service confirmed on Wednesday that about 50% of the building was involved in the blaze.
An investigation into the cause of the fire began on Wednesday morning, the spokeswoman confirmed.
Thick black smoke could be seen across Sudbury as firefighters worked to get the blaze under control.
A police cordon was put in place while emergency services attended the blaze, but it was lifted a short while later.
An eyewitness, who asked not to be named, said he saw smoke billowing from the roof of the building.
He added: "It was huge. I am not sure how it started but there was a lot of police and firefighters there."
