One woman had to be airlifted to hospital after the RNLI was called to rescue 16 people onboard a rowing boat off the coast of Suffolk. 

Harwich RNLI was alerted to the vessel on Wednesday morning, with the majority of the people on the boat suffering from severe seasickness and exhaustion.

The boat was reportedly about 40 miles east of Landguard Point, on the edge of Felixstowe.

According to the RNLI, a member of the rowing crew was airlifted to Ipswich Hospital at about 1.30pm after she was found to be seriously ill.

She is now in a stable condition.

It was determined that the other members of the crew were unable to continue their journey, with many of them described as "incapacitated".

The RNLI towed the boat back to Harwich, where the rowing team were welcomed with hot drinks. 

A spokesman for the RNLI said: "The exhausted rowers expressed immense gratitude for the swift and professional assistance provided by the Harwich RNLI volunteers."
